Course Description:

COMPLETE HEALTH IMPROVEMENT - The Complete Health Improvement Program (CHIP) is a premier lifestyle intervention program that has been offered for more than 25 years to target chronic disease.  The intervention program has been used in clinical, corporate, and community settings.  The benefits of CHIP, as well as its cost-effectiveness, have been documented in more than 25 peer-reviewed publications.  Each of the group sessions are run 1-1.5 hours, half of which involves an educational component with the other half focused on group activities, such as cooking demonstrations, physical exercises, and discussion.  The sessions are structured around a model of learn, experience, and reflect.  For more information on the program visit Lifestyle Medicine Institure, chiphealth.com.  Mazie Hollenbaugh is an Integrative Nutritionist, Yoga therapist and MBSR instructor with more than 15 years teaching holistic health classes.

Course Description:

This course is designed to introduce students, safely and accessibly, to the basic asanas, breathing techniques, and relaxation methods of yoga. Over the cousre of the semester, students will experience the benefits of stretching, moving and breathing freely as they move through a weekly vinyasa. In addition to learning correct alignment and poses, students will also be introduced to the history of yoga, the various types of yoga and a variety of yogic principles. The aim of this course is to promote vibrant health and to develop the skills, knowledge and interest to maintain a regular yoga practice. 

A yoga mat and two blocks are required for this course.

Course Description:

This workshop is all about how yoga can empower you to realize your inner strength whilst recognizing that being strong sometimes means having the strength to rest and look after your needs. We are warriors, goddesses and strong women. We want to show you how yoga can help us embrace these characteristics to empower us. Being a goddess or a warrior however doesn't mean having to do everything all the time by yourself and carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. Strength is asking for help and support when we need it. Goddesses know when to rest and protect their energy and this workshop is all about achieving that balance. As women we can feel under such pressure to be perfect, juggle families, careers and provide loe and support to those around us. This pressure sometimes can really build up and leave us feeling exhausted. We want you to leave this workshop feeling replenished, strong, empowered and fully apprecite the truly amazing woman that you are!

Melissa Klevans has been a practitioner of yoga for over 20 years and a teacher of yoga for 5 years. Her specialties include gentle yoga, flow and the overall connection of both the body and mind. Ms. Klevans is the perfect yogi to introduce you to the overall concept of yoga, give you adjustments and alteration to your practice, to make yoga perfect for a person of any age and any level. Course Description:

This workshop can help take the poses you know and organize them together to create a home practice. This class will give you a better understanding of how to not only choose your poses, but in what order to put them in. Learning how to sequence teaches you to become intuitive and in touch with your own body and needs, as well as establish an independence to bring your yoga out of a traditional studio and classroom. We will begin with centering and learning how to start by calming the mind. Warming up the spine and moving into a flow that you can literally take anywhere, so yoga can stay a constant in your life regardless of circumstance. The class will end by teaching you relaxation techniques and a cooling down method that will allow you to find a level of clarity in meditation that traditionally ends a yoga class. The hope from this class is that you will leave being able to find new levels of inspiration and clarity from practicing these things in your own home environment.

Course Description:

The beginner's workshop introduces yoga, fundamental principles of alignment, and breath work. Students will be introduced to yoga postures through the step-by-step verbal description and demonstration. Emphasis is placed on student understanding, safety, and stability with each pose. Foundational yoga poses practice proper alignment to promote flexibility to the body and are facilitated by hands-on adjustments. Breathing techniques and meditation are also integrated. You can expect an emphasis on simplicity, repetition, and ease of movement. Full-body relaxation and balance are the goals. If you have never tried yoga, this series is perfect for you and is designed to meet the needs of those new to yoga as well as those seeking continued understanding of basic yoga poses. Remember yoga is for everyone! you don't have to be flexible to begin.
