Overview of the Grant Process

This class will provide you with an overview of the process of seeking grants to support a nonprofit organization. Whether you are a nonprofit staff member looking to supplement your organization’s
revenue or a volunteer who has some time to give and wants to help a nonprofit, this class will help you
determine if it makes sense to spend time seeking grants from corporate or private foundations. Based on the
instructor’s book, Get Grants Now, this is a highly interactive class and you will leave knowing if spending
time seeking grants is a good idea for your nonprofit.

Instructor: Jane B. Ford, M.Ed. has written grant proposals for more than 25 years and taught others to do so for the past 18 years. She has secrured grants ranging from $1,000 to more than $450,000 for a wide variety of nonprofits.

Fundraising

Raising money to support nonprofts is a critical activity and yet many people find funraising intimidating. Put your fears aside and come to the class which presents the basic principles of fundraising through “The Giving Game”. Whether you are a board member of a communitybased non-profit, a volunteer for a faith-based organization or staff of an arts organization, this class will help you raise money to support the mission of your organization.

Media Relations/Outreach


This course is a basic primer on how to cultivate favorable press or media commentary and to create
and manage a process of bringing together groups and individuals to focus on a public policy change critical to the nonprofit’s business plan. The student will be exposed to techniques for contacting media and community opinon makers, including drafting of press releases and taking points advancing the Non-profit’s objectives.

Planning for Success


Strategic plans, marketing plans, resource development plans are all important for nonprofits no matter the size of the organization or its mission. Yet, most people would prefer to do the “real work” of their nonprofit whether it is feeding the homeless, producing a concert, or creating a youth program than take the time for planning. And yet, good planning creates more opportunies for your nonprofit to better serve the people you are committed to help with your programs. This class will provide you with an overview of the basic plans needed by nonprofits as they work to achieve their mission.

Successfully Seeking Grants

Are you convinced that there are grant funds out there that could help your organization but you don’t know
where to begin looking? Does your nonprofit have a program that is really needed by the community but you
need more funds to support it? Have you started writing a proposal but been deterred by creating a complex
budget or trying to understand what the funder really wants in the narrative? Are you a volunteer who
has time to give but wouldn’t know where to begin seeking grants? This class will answer all these questions
and many more that you haven’t even thought of yet. In this handson, highly participatory class you will learn the basic principles ofgrant seeking and then immediately implement what you have learned.

Government Relations

This course will explain the intricate linkages between all levels of govenments and the Non-Profit including regulations and compliance mandates. It will also show ways of meeting with public officials, adopting agendas and the rules for such meetings, either on one on one or in a group format. It will also extend to some political limited campaign related issues. Such linkages are critical in advancing proposals for necessary public funds.
