COURSE DESCRIPTION: Interested in exploring the world of veterinary medicine? Learn the skills needed to become a functional part of a veterinary team. Topics in this course include, but are not limited to: Office and Hospital Procedures, Communication and Client Relations, Animal Restraint, Medical Terminology, Pharmacy, Lab Procedures, Radiology, Surgical Preparation, Small Animal Nursing, Basic First Aid and CPR.  This class provides the student with a certificate of completion.  This course prepares students to sit for the Veterinary Technicial National Exam (VTNE).

FORMAT: The Veterinary Assistant course will be conducted online through virtual workshops. This will  include weekly tasks and goals. This course will be compiled of assignments, powerpoints , and videos  that are sent to you from the instructor. Each will include assignments that the student will send back to the instructor via email. Assignments, notes and any other information pertaining to that week's lesson will be sent out every Monday night and the student will have a week to submit the work to the instructor by the due date. The last few classes will be held in-person for the completion of the lab component pending the suspension of Governor Baker's Stay-at-home mandate. A final assessment will determine if the student has met the necessary credentials for the certificate of completion.

INSTRUCTOR: Elise McAllister has been in the animal industry for over 10 years, teaching at agricultural high schools and dog training. She has a yellow Labrador named Revis who is a certified therapy dog. Elise enjoys all animals and believes in positive reinforcement for training exercises and error free learning for happy fulfilled pets!
