The primary responsibility of a Phlebotomist is to obtain blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Phlebotomists must be familiar with all aspects of the blood collection process. Lectures include laboratory terminology, anatomy and physiology, blood collection procedures, specimen processing, communication skills, legal/ethical issues and professionalism. You will have hands-on laboratory practice sessions as well as clinical training. The course consists of 90 hours of classroom training. You must meet acceptable standards in order to advance to clinical training. IN ORDER TO EARN YOUR PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE YOU MUST COMPLETE THE ASSIGNED 3 WEEK DAYTIME (FULL-TIME) CLINICAL AT AN OFFSITE LAB AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THE CLASSROOM PORTION. YOU MUST COMPLETE THE CLINICAL DURING THE SEMESTER YOU ARE ENROLLED. PREREQUISITE: Medical Terminology, must be able to Speak & Write Fluent English. MANDATORY ORIENTATION SESSION FOR PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6th, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. FINAL acceptance depends upon an acceptable CORI. Vaccinations should be completed before class starts. In order to complete the class requirements and earn a certificate, students must successfully complete a 3 week, 120 hour clinical during daytime hours at an area lab based on the instructor's discretion. Students must complete this clinical during the semester that they are enrolled.
